Of the many types of arts and crafts, paper craft is known to be the easiest thing to do. Also, the materials for most paper crafts like card making costs less than other types of arts and crafts. This means that beginners need not spend a fortune to undertake a single project like designing and printing a calendar 2011.

Paper Craft

Just like other types of arts and crafts, PAPER CRAFT also has different types too. Some of these have pretty strict guidelines while some allow your creativity to roam. This factor would play a huge part when you are deciding which craft to start with or focus on. The same techniques in this type of craft can be used to create your very own calendar 2011.

Papier-mache is also another popular PAPER CRAFTs. With enough creativity, you can make practical things with papier-mache. It can also be used to create certain decorations for the home. Origami is another PAPER CRAFT easy for beginners to learn. There are also plenty of resources online that would teach you how to fold paper to create something interesting and beautiful. The simple creations made by paper folding may not be as lavish as the design of calendar 2011 but they do make great everyday token of appreciation for friends in the workplace.

There are other crafts like collage making which you can find resources for online just like you would with card making. Getting supplies for any paper craft you choose would also be easy with online stores now offering supplies for making calendar 2011 and other paper craft projects.

Free Models From the Web - Spacecraft Paper Modeling

In a previous article, I discussed how I discovered the wonderful world of paper models available for download. You simply download a graphic file, print it on your inkjet printer and assemble with glue. While this medium will never replace plastic models, there is a lot to say for a model format that offers you unlimited replacement parts, scale adjustability, and usually is, well, free.

Paper Model

If you love space ships, as I do, there is a great variety of space models free for download. Whether you want a model based on a move, TV show or reality, you can probably find it. Currell Graphics features models of the (pre-spaceage) V-2 rocket from WWII and the SpaceShipOne. The Lower Hudson Valley paper model features some great models of NASA craft in their "Real Space" section, including several versions of the Space Shuttle, the upcoming Ares moon craft and even a 4 foot tall Saturn V Apollo rocket.

Paper Model

You'll find many card model available based on spaceships of movies and TV. An easy starter would be Erwin de Jong's saucer from "The Day the Earth Stood Still" at Cut & Paste Sci-Fi. A fairly new model on the web is a very detailed version of the Discovery from 2001: A Space Odyssey that is several feet long when finished. Battlestar Gallactia (both versions) are well covered, as are several other popular and less well-known shows. My last count was at least 40 downloadable models available depicting "Star Wars" craft, from a small and simple Tie Fighter to a very detailed At-At walker. The "Star Trek" franchise takes the ribbon for the most free model downloads on the web. I've documented about 100 and I'm sure there are many more around.

Constructing space models in paper models. The trickiest part tends to be in matching the joints of cylindrical hull sections. I like to complete each section, dry it and fit the next section to the previous one. And while many card model files include bases, I almost always prefer to suspend them by nylon thread from the ceiling. You can poke holes along the hull during assembly and embed buttons inside with the thread tied to it. Doing this in 2 places along the length allows 2 contact points for the string for easy leveling. An easier method is to simply locate the center of gravity of the finished model and tie the thread around that section of the fuselage. Transparent thread will be basically invisible.

A couple of good places to start looking for free space-oriented card models are Free paper model Giftshop.

Miniature Model Airport Design

Miniature Model Airports have become a way for collectors to show off their collection of miniature airplanes. Amongst all the different types of miniature airplanes on the market today, die cast airplanes are the best. The quality and detail on the die cast airplanes is superior compared to the same scale plastic planes. The three most popular scales are 1:200, 1:400 and 1:500.

Paper Model

The 1:500 scale is the smallest of the three. It is dominated by Herpa Wings. Herpa is a big provider of not only die cast scale airplanes, but also die cast scale cars. Throughout the years Herpa has increased the level of detail in their models, making them some of the best for the 1:500 market. In addition to the airplanes, Herpa also offers a variety of Airport buildings, airport mat sets and accessories to build model airports. They are very nice and very detailed.

Paper Model

The 1:400 scale is a "medium size" scale. The two big players on this market are Gemini Jets and Dragon Wings. Herpa Wings also has some offerings, but not many. Gemini Jets and Dragon Wings offer some of the highest quality in both construction and detail. Gemini recently unveiled a line of Airport buildings and accessories for the 1:400 market.

The 1:200 scale is the biggest scale of the three. Lately there have been more offerings from Gemini Jets and Herpa Wings. The quality and the details are exceptional. For example, on most of these models you have rolling rubber tires and, on some models, rotating engine rotors.

When designing a model airport, you want to decide how much work you want to put into it. You can purchase ready-made airport mat sets (or foils), buildings and accessories, or you can build all from scratch. If you are building the airport from scratch, you may want to check the FAA website, under planning and capacity to get all the necessary specifications for runway length, width, clearances, etc. To convert these measurements to the proper scale, use the following formula:

measurement in inches = measurement in feet x Conversion-Factor

where Conversion-Factor is 0.024 for 1:500 scale, 0.03 for 1:400 scale, and 0.06 for 1:200 scale. For example, the width of a typical runway is 150 feet, to change this to 1:500 scale:

150 x 0.024 = 3.6 inches wide

If you want to design your own terminals, you can use a variety of materials. For the beginner, you can use Balsa wood, or cardboard. For the most advanced, you can go to your local hobby shop, and check out the model railroad area. Much of these materials can be used in the construction of buildings for your airport. Whatever the level, use your imagination and have fun!

The History of Pergamano Parchment Craft

Pergamano Parchment Craft is a popular, new craft rooted in an art form that stems back almost two thousand years. Today's parchment craft projects are delicately beautiful, lacy designs created by a combination of techniques including embossing, stippling, perforating, cutting and coloring.

Paper Craft

According to historians, Turks from Bergama, Turkey invented parchment in approximately 500 AD. (Bergama is Pergamum in Latin). The Turks developed parchment as a substitute for papyrus. Because of wars underway, they were unable to import the ingredients needed to make papyrus - a type of paper craft appeared in Europe in the 15th or 16th centuries. At that time, parchment craft entailed creating lace-like designs on sheets of paper craft, most of the designs were religious in nature and had significant Catholic overtones. Over time, these traditional techniques developed into newer approaches and new techniques.

Paper Craft

Parchment craft did not spread rapidly during the 15th century, as many forms of card making were mechanized following the invention of the printing press in 1445. However, parchment craft experienced a revival during the 18th century. At that time, the handwork became more intricate and decorative, with wavy borders and perforations being introduced.

With the advent of French romanticism in the 19th century, parchment crafters began incorporating floral themes, cherubs and portraits. They also added embossing as a technique, resulting in attractive raised effects with white or gray undertones.

During the 16th century, parchment craft appeared primarily in Europe. However, in the early 1500s, European missionaries from monasteries and convents introduced the craft to South American countries, where it flourished among craft persons in religious communities. For example, young South American girls receiving their First Communion often received parchment craft items as gifts.

Later, in Columbia, cottage industries sprung up as people began selling hand made parchment greeting cards and invitations. One such highly talented Columbian woman, Martha Ospina moved to the Netherlands in 1986. In 1987, Martha and her partner Tiemen Venema began showing their intricate cards at events such as flower arranging workshops. Interest grew.

In 1988, Martha created the well known Pergamano brand, in an effort to make the tools and supplies available worldwide. Today, Pergamao International owns the brand and continues to produce and distribute these products, which now include parchment PAPER CRAFTers) continue to create new designs.

Martha also founded the International Parchment Craft Academy, an institution that educates people to become registered Pergamano teachers.

Made from cellulose or cotton fibres, today's parchment PAPER CRAFT was used primarily in the creation of greeting cards, it has many other applications. Today's crafters make beautiful bookmarks, scrapbook embellishments, gift boxes, gift tags, flowers, lampshades, fans and various other decorations.

Pergamano Parchment Craft is popular primarily in South America and Europe. However, it is becoming increasingly popular in North America as well. As PAPER CRAFTers discover this elegant, beautiful craft, many are eager to add it to their repertoire.

Free Models From the Web - Finding and Building Paper Models

As a kid, I spent countless hours building plastic model kits and have always loved models and model building. As an adult, my time is more limited, but I've continued to envy models of all kinds. Some years ago, I stumbled upon a new twist on an old hobby: paper models you can download from the Internet. You've probably seen those architectural paper models in the bookstore that only require cutting out and gluing together. This concept has come into the computer age. Now, there are countless paper models available on the web as graphic files. You simply download the file and print out the pages on your color ink jet printer. Then it's just a matter of cutting out the pieces and assembling your model. Even better, most of these models are free!

Paper Craft

Why paper models are like flimsy paper craft models from the ceiling easy.

Paper Craft

Building a card model has many advantages over traditional model building I like. I love that they are don't require painting and can be assembled with common white glue. If you mess up a part, you can replace it easily by just printing out the page again.

What sort of models can you download free from the web? Because card models go straight from the designer to the builder, the range of subjects is much greater than it is for production models. You can find card models (as builders call them) depicting all sorts of vehicles, buildings, and even animals. Movie and TV subjects are among the most popular. You can find free models of the Disneyland Sleeping Beauty Castle, the Graf Zepplin, the starship Enterprise (all versions), or a grand sailing ship.

Where Do You Find them?
Once you start looking, you will find card models everywhere. Here are some tips to start: Doing a Google search of a subject with "paper craft shop and pick up one of those plastic cutting mats. a 12 inch by 12 inch mat is fine. A good X-Acto knife is best, too. If you don't want white paper edges showing on your model, there are a couple of ways to fix that. You can use a set of colored pencils or markers to carefully color just the edge. I prefer watercolors for this, so I can thin the color to a shade closer to that of the printed surface. Any kid's watercolor set will do, but it helps to pick up a very fine brush for this. Any white PVA glue will do. I use Alene's Tacky Glue, but Elmer's and others work fine. For gluing small parts, I use toothpicks: the flat sided type. Q-Tips are good for gluing larger areas. Pick up a metal ruler for cutting straight line edges. If you've never done this, practice a bit before trying it on your model page. Another good thing to have is a can of spray-on fixative or varnish to set the water-based inks on the page before assembly.

There are free paper model downloads that can be assembled in a few minutes and others that can take weeks. Try one. Paper modeling may not replace plastic modeling, but it can be a fun variation of your model-building routine.

Candy Bar Cards - How to Make Them

Making a candy bar card to mark a special occasion can be a novel and memorable way to make someone's day. All it takes is a little thought and a few simple materials, plus a few chocolates of course. This way your project winds up being a sweet gift as well as a greeting card.

Paper Craft

Here is How to Make Your Card

Paper Craft

First think about the reason you want to make the card. Is it to mark a special birthday or anniversary? Has someone achieved a goal? Do you want to mark the beginning (a wedding?) or an end (retirement?) of something?

With your occasion in mind, the next step is to take a trip to the local supermarket and to browse the confectionery aisles. Look for candy bars with names that suit your theme or message. Purchase your chocolates. You may choose small candy bars or individually wrapped chocolates, for example. You just need to be able to read the name of the treat and the sweet needs to be a suitable size for attaching to your card with pins or adhesive.

Now look for some cardboard or thin Styrofoam to make the backing for your card. The bigger the backing, the easier it will be for a group of people to read your message, and the more chocolates you can fit into your message. Make sure your backing is strong enough to support the weight of your chocolates as well.

The next step is to head home to lay out the chocolates in front of the computer. I spend some time brainstorming ways to make a message for my friend or family member, using the chocolates to help spell out my message.

When I have a message in mind, I type it into a word document. Then I format the font (I like Verdana) to be about the same size as the words on my chocolates. I leave some space between my lines of text so I can cut the words of the message apart when I print them out. If you would rather write out your message by hand or spell it out with alphas, paint or even words cut from magazines, of course you can.

After printing my message and cutting out the phrases or words, I start pinning the message to the board or backing sheet.

Work out the middle of your message and lay the words on the middle of the backing sheet. Do they fit where you want them? Can you fit your chocolate words in too? If everything fits, start pinning or adhering the words and chocolates to your backing sheet.

It should not take long to finish making the candy bar card once you know what you want to say.

A Message Idea for Your Candy Bar Card:

To get you started, here is a message I made up for a Father's Day candy bar card:

I would have to go to MARS to find a Dad like you. Ever since I was a BABE (Ruth) you always TAKE 5 to BOOST me up when I am down. You are a TOP DECK kind of Dad!

I trust you will be inspired to make your own special candy bar card now, but be warned. If you are anything like me, there is a hazard involved in making this type of card. It is the temptation to eat the chocolates before they reach their intended recipient!

Handmade Paper Model Airplanes For Hobbyists

There are two major categories of model planes, which are either static or flying planes. The static models, as the name suggest, are non flying ones. While deciding which model to buy, one should know the setting before hand, either to have a static or the flying one. However, it's good to note that even the static models can be overhauled and equipping them with necessary parts can make them a flying type. This can be fun, especially if you love assembling and sort of be a little mechanic. The flying type of model planes can further be divided into three types. The first one is free flight, the second is control line flying and the third is remote controlled model. The remote controlled types have a radio device that sends signals to the receiver, built in the plane. This type is more fun, since the pilot gets to control it fully.

Paper Model

But, there is also another unique type model in the static category. This type is the handmade paper model airplane. As the name hints, this model is made from paper models in this category are the ones that kids make at school and 'fly' them around the school compound or at home. Making these paper planes is good as a rewarding hobby for kids. Kids also get interested to learn more about models planes. With many paper models created by various artists around the world, this hobby of making handmade paper model airplane has become popular and spreading.

Paper Model

Advanced paper models have more physical features and some of them look just like any other model. But, they are only static and made of paper. Some of the features are found in the advanced paper models and their details resemble a real airplane. These models are made from high quality papers, giving them an original look. They are then painted with an airbrush, to give it a glossy finish and look rich to enhance greater aesthetic value. The models are also fitted with a glass cock pit, which can easily be opened and closed. The wings and rudder are fitted with aileron, which enables to swing by hands. And finally, the models are fitted with a landing gear, to bring the plane to a halt, after it descends.

Making paper model planes is a great fun to enjoy and share it with others. The art of making it is easy to master and the materials are easily available. So, even before thinking of flying advanced and more expensive model planes, look for paper models planes, which are available in the market, or look for some papers in your garage and make one!

Papercraft Models

Useful hobbies are all around. Mine is to build paper models. When I was a child I built quite a few plastic kit models. Cars, aircraft and military vehicles mostly. I thought I had some experience building scale models.

Paper Craft

Then I tried building one using paper model building task in itself. You'll probably have to print a part several times until you can bend and shape it correctly. If you are a beginner on this field, you'll need more time to get the shape you need. The only rule I found is to not give up.

Paper Craft

It feels nothing short of terrific to start with a simple sheet of paper models, you'll find yourself to be a better and more experienced model builder.

Your initial efforts will turn into results and by the time you will have filled your shelves with "paper model with? I suggest trying yourself first. Maybe it isn't for you. Don't buy many expensive tools, accessories, glue, maybe a new printer if you don't have those already. Choose a cheaper art knife with some spare blades and use some old newspaper craft" + "your topic"

Change "your topic" phrase to what you like. It's simple as that.

Having downloaded the pattern, print it on the proper paper crafts you'll become more experienced. You'll find solutions and way of doing things that fit you. Maybe, in time, you'll design your own scale-models. Every time you look at the model you had built, you'll realize how nice it looks. Nice and precious for you because it contains all those work hours. The truth is, it contains a little piece of you.

Spacecraft Models Made of Paper

Model building has been around along time. Ever since people first built ships to sail the oceans, someone wanted a model of it. Ship models from all over the world have been found by archaeologists. The Greeks, Egyptians and Phoenicians were some of the most prolific ship model builders. Most model boats in history were made of wood.

Paper Model

Today there are many types to build. Polystyrene is a very popular model material. While most are easy to glue together the main challenge is to paint them nicely. There is also resin and wood models to name a couple.

Paper Model

One building material for models often over looked is paper. Paper can make a very durable and detail model. To look at them, one would not think they were made of paper. There are some really great paper models available for free downloading. There are great models of ships, planes, tanks and spacecraft to download.

Building paper models is something any one with any level of skill can do. Some of them are easier to do than others. Some will have instructions included, some will not.You will start to know how they go together after you do a few.

You can find paper models of things not available any where else, like space probes. Space probes made of polystyrene are hard to find. Sure you can get a model of one if you want to spend 0 for a "museum quality" model. But do you really need a model of the Galileo space probe that bad?

With a some effort you will have the satisfaction of having created a great looking model for only a few pennies. Painting is not a problem, all you need is a color printer and all the details are done for you. While paper models are inexpensive they are still great looking and fun to build.
